Starcodes horoscopes for December 30 – January 5, 2017

By Heather Roan Robbins

The astrological patterns of 2017 call for follow-through, innovation, and compassion.

Follow through: So many changes have transformed our world over the last five years that we are in a phase of reaction, a spring-back, but do not have to let go of the progress we’ve made. Many souls who contracted for the last chapter are choosing to leave, which can make this a hard transition. Any cultural or legal change, any positive change of personal habit, need to be exercised and guarded until they become a new habit, because these changes will be challenged. We need to follow through on the efforts of the last era as we get started on the new chapter.  And hug our beloveds in the process.

[ad name=”AdSense Responsive”]

Innovation: Look for technological innovation and sociological experiments that stretch and test us as serious Saturn trines, and expansive Jupiter opposes, exciting, chaotic Uranus, now through the fall.   We need to pay attention to the consequences of our actions. This Saturn Uranus trine suggests the first round of changes will move the balance towards conservative saturnine restrictions in the name of security. But we can also use this trine to also build structure and organization into all our agencies of change. Jupiter opposes Uranus show the opposition to the changes expressed by the left, digging in their heels, but the real power will be not in resistance, but in refocusing the changes towards clear, healthy, Uranian-egalitarian, and specific goals.

Transformation: Things do not settle down this year, the climate and ecosystems continue to change and politics stay in flux around the world. Many people will want steer the changes to benefit their ilk, but we can counterbalance that pressure and take a truly global approach to problem-solving. Jupiter in egalitarian Libra until October encourages us to find our people and work together to build healthy romantic partnerships and social justice allies. Dynamic compassion needs to be our guiding principle.

Throughout 2017: Pluto remains in Capricorn transforming how we use electrical, political, and personal power by showing us power at its most oppressive worst- and at its empowering best. Uranus in rebellious, quick-to-fight Aries continues to challenge, sometimes explosively, this power-wielding dynamic. Neptune stays in intuitive, spiritual Pisces and keeps water health, water rights, and wild weather in the headlines. This Neptune feeds our spiritual hunger and need for numinous magic, but it also can feed the religious attachment that creates wars. We need to honor the many paths to spirit.

As this weekend begins: Friday brings a new industriousness under a new Capricorn Moon, we can become controlling if we’re feeling out of control. We may want to start a new work cycle, but need to use this industriousness to clean up flotsam from 2016 and organize for the year ahead as Mercury is retrograde through Jan 8.  Watch for difficult pragmatic snafus and accidents, be thoughtful around all machinery and intersections.

As 2017 dawns we may feel overwhelmed, emotional, and concerned about the future, and that can lead to an excess of escapist behavior New Year’s Eve. But a hangover won’t make the new year look any better. Let’s keep our hearts open, our souls soft and protective, and dream together through the weekend, and as Venus joins the Moon, Mars, and Neptune in intuitive, squishy Pisces on Tuesday.

Mercury retrogrades back into outspoken Sagittarius on Wednesday and we’ll feel like stomping horses waiting for a race to start. Unexpected comments can reveal startling truths, but let’s fact check all we say and post. Watch for missteps, misunderstandings, and explosions. If people get cranky, ask what would clear the air, and help them get them pointed towards an achievable goal in the direction of their dreams.

Friday, Dec 30: Neither try to push the river, not be left out of plans, stay involved in important processes, but stay in the present moment. Frustration breeds depression, our moodiness improves if we feel like we’re getting somewhere. This evening it furthers to take a conceptual break, see a wonderful movie or somehow transport the psyche as the Sun sextiles Neptune and the Moon enters Aquarius.

Moon square Uranus 12:19 AM, Sun sextile Neptune 4:24 PM, Moon enters Aquarius 6:29  pm.

Saturday, Dec 31: Sweep the house and the soul, gather together unhappy remnants of 2016 and have a bonfire. Make plans to share this release of the old and bring in support to launch 2017 with intention as Jupiter quincunx the healing asteroid Chiron. It will be tempting to drown sorrows, but we’ll need our brains working in the new year ahead.

Mars conjuncts Neptune 11:52 PM.

Sunday, Jan 1: Let the world come to a gentle halt and savor the people nearby under this collective Aquarius Moon. Share from the heart. Keep imagination away from fear by brainstorming about possibilities and setting healing intentions for the new year.

Moon sextile Uranus 9:23 AM, Moon trine Jupiter 10:37 PM, Moon sextile Saturn 11:03 AM.

Monday, Jan 2:  Our brains and hearts are still out on holiday, so let’s keep expectations low. Emotions wash through us as the Moon conjuncts Neptune in sensitive Pisces.  We may be happy sitting by the fire with a good book or engaging in some other low-key occupation, but may feel swamped by emotions if we try to get practical and deal. Irritations or emotional impatience increases tonight as the Moon conjuncts Mars. Let’s dwell in compassion; support one another, but stay in the moment and don’t try to look too far ahead.

Moon conjunct Venus 12:58 AM, Moon enters Pisces 2:57 AM, Moon conjunct Neptune 8:57 PM, Moon conjunct Mars 11:35 PM

Tuesday, Jan 3:  It’s a great week to write a fantasy novel as Venus joins Mars and Neptune in imaginative Pisces. So write one about the coming year and imagine the situation improving. Take back the paradigm. People are still feeling sentimental, tender, worried, and slow off the mark. Practical concerns need to be dealt with, not delayed tonight as the Moon square Saturn. Build support and connections, care for one another and the next steps get easier.

Venus enters Pisces 12:46 AM, Mercury sextile Venus 12:40 PM, Moon square Saturn 6:32 PM.

Wednesday, Jan 4: We begin to get our energy back, feel a bit more chipper and forward thinking, but may also need to speak up and get something off our chest first as Mercury appears to back into out-spoken Sagittarius and the Moon enters feisty Aries. Injudicious comments may have long term ramifications, so think before speaking, and hope our politicians do the same.

Mercury enters Sagittarius, 7:14 AM, Moon squares Mercury9:14 AM, Moon enters Aries 9:19 AM.

Thursday, Jan 5: Our heart may feel sore or our spirits disappointed as Venus semi-squares Pluto, and we may need to make changes in response. Unexpected elements require us to think fast, but watch out for a knee-jerk response against an antagonism, and choose thoughtfully where to go instead. If things are hard, hold one another’s hands in compassion.

Moon square the Sun 12:46 PM, Moon square Pluto 3:16 PM, Moon conjunct Uranus 9:14 PM, Moon opposed Jupiter 11:06 PM, Moon trine Saturn, 11:36 PM.

by Heather Roan Robbins

This is the darkest week of the year, we need to shine for one another and bring light to this dark times. Winter solstice on December 21 at 3:44 AM MST marks the turning point, when the Sun stands still for three days before it begins its journey northward, soon lengthening our days even as the winds stay cool.

This time can also mark a dark or concerning moment as thoughtful Mercury approaches mysterious Pluto, stands stills and retrogrades (by quirk of our orbits it appears to back up) for three weeks starting December 19, just a few hours before the electoral college meets. We may begin to feel more vulnerable and sensitive, easily overwhelmed and in our heart, as Mars joins Venus in sensitive, reactive Pisces that same day.

[ad name=”AdSense Responsive”]

Now mercury retrograde can bring about sudden floods of information or a reversal of decisions, a throwback, but whether that is a throwback to a few months ago, or to challenging decades past, is not predictable. This year is full of wildcards as. Our culture stretched so far, though maybe not far enough, between 2008 and 2015 while Uranus formed a transformative square to Pluto. Though conditions are still unsettled, the societal rubber band urges to snap back into the old position before this great stretch. It’s our job to not give up in the face of this snapback, but hold the changes we love from that great square and guide our culture in its evolution.

So as Venus and Mars in sensitive Pisces leave us in a rather sentimental and emotional squishy state, Mercury retrograde brings us back to our memories of the past. At this time of the year many of us go back and see old friends and family, visit conundrums from the past and may be triggered into our old emotional patterns. Memories linger of those who are no longer with us. It’s a wonderful time to savor the past but let’s not get stuck there; bring forward the best, and remember the progress we’ve made.

We may see some pragmatic snafus arise this Christmas season as Mercury is retrograde in practical, earthy Capricorn. Have extra batteries and parts for things we need to assemble, figure out alternate routes or forms of transportation when tires burst or parts fail. Keep the first aid kit stocked for banged knees and minor scrapes. And be prepared to improvise around missing ingredients on old family recipes.

The Moon enters Leo on Friday and lingers festively throughout the weekend. Sun day we grow more thoughtful and pragmatic, but also can wind out in some worry or concern and get cranky with one another, and this could intensify unless we take good care of our one another as the Moon enters Virgo and opposes Mars on Sun day.

Monday, all bets are off as Mercury stations and the Moon opposes Neptune. We’ll need a lot of room for emotional processing but may have important information by the as the Moon trines Mercury and Pluto. Winter solstice if we can take some quiet time on Tuesdayand Wednesday as the Sun stands still, remember our history, reconnect with their roots and remember how long we have survived and what tools we have to move forward.

Friday, December 16: People are feeling the stress of the season as well as the stress of this turning point in history as Mercury approaches Pluto. It will help to have a project to focus upon, a healthy obsession around something we can actually affect. There is a sociability, but almost a fervency to it, as if we have to hurry up and celebrate as the Moon enters Leo this morning. Let’s see our interactions not just as an obligation, but as a real opportunity to nurture one another souls.

Moon enters Leo 7:14 AM.

Saturday, December 17: This day is an interesting mix of festive holiday sociability with a Leo Moon, competence through technical snafus as we scurry around, all over an underlying stream of nagging anxieties as thoughtful Mercury in Capricorn approaches Pluto. Afternoon can bring some real delights as the Leo Moon trines Saturn Uranus and the Sun; look for those delights and let them feed the soul.

Moon opposed Venus 2:22 AM, Moon sextile Jupiter 4:50 p.m., Moon trine Saturn 5:23 PM, Moon trine Uranus 6:56 PM.

Sunday, December 18: An edgy vibe can stir our worries and bring out our cranky or impatient edges as the Moon opposes Mars and enters Virgo this morning. Old physical pains can tweak and ache. It furthers to do healing work, dive into something with lots of details, whether unfinished work or ornament creation and avoid giving one another well-meaning advice, which will only be heard as criticism.

Moon trine Sun 6:26 AM, Moon opposed Mars 10:55 AM, Moon enters Virgo 11:51 AM.

Monday, December 19: We get dealt wildcards, anything could happen. Or nothing. Mercury stations as Mars enters Pisces and the Moon opposes Neptune, so we really will have trouble seeing through the virtual fog or blizzard. Meditation furthers, let life be an exercise in patience and mutual support. We can catch our breath this evening and have intense discussion as the Moon trines Mercury and Pluto.

Mars enters Pisces 3:22 AM, Mercury retrogrades for 50 5 AM. Moon opposed Neptune 5:23 AM. Moon trine Mercury 3:58 PM, Moon trine Pluto 6:14 PM.

Tuesday, December 20: This morning we can feel tired or have to deal with large logistical decisions or hurdles, but we can get a surprising amount accomplished nonetheless as the Moon squares the Sun and Saturn. The evening and our hearts soften if we can have a moment of quiet peace tonight as the Moon enters more sociable egalitarian Libra.

Moon square Saturn 1:19 AM, Moon square Sun 7:55 PM, Moon enters Libra 8:39 PM.

Wednesday, December 21: The Sun enters Capricorn and winter officially begins at 4:48 AM [Mountain Standard Time], and it’s time to return to our roots; our personal cultural roots, the roots of our soul, our work, our strength. Any moment of quiet furthers, any moment of gentle sharing furthers. Bustling around crazy may be tempting, but potentially counterproductive. Shhh.

Sun enters Capricorn 4:48 AM.

Thursday, December 22: We’re making lists and checking them twice, looking carefully for who is naughty and nice; we can be both observant and judgment this morning as the Moon squares Mercury and Pluto. Check facts before reposting. It is easy to feel insufficient for our tasks, but let’s remember, we are enough. The mood grows more generous with a tendency to overspend and overdue this afternoon as the Moon conjuncts Libra.

Moon square Mercury 1:04 AM, Moon square Pluto 5:35 AM, Moon trine Venus 6:23 AM, Moon conjunct Jupiter 12:30 PM, Moon sextile Saturn 12:58 PM, Moon opposed Uranus 1:31 PM.

Rationality, steady accomplishment, endurance, patience; this may not sound like a warm and fuzzy holiday attitude, but these handy attributes are offered to us as the Sun conjuncts serious Saturn, sextiles hopeful Jupiter, and trines restless Uranus this week. With this line-up we can feel terribly serious, concerned, or with heavy spirits, which may be a totally appropriate attitude towards the world these days, but that Saturnine endurance and Uranian curiosity are also in there, and positively trine, and they can see us through. We just have to reach for it.

[ad name=”AdSense Responsive”]

Because the Sun so active this week we may be dealt a wild card; big things can happen for better or worse, a surprising relief or a fresh call to action. Look for more clues to this year’s agenda on both a personal and political level. That trine between Saturn and Uranus ripples in so many directions for the next few months; Saturn can give form to the Uranian changes, but we see those changes could move into a saturnine direction; conservative, restrictive, and potentially threadbare. We can turn it around with effort, and add Uranian change to saturnine structures if we have vision and persistence.

We can easily feel low-energy and need hibernate this week, our seasonal moodiness can get worse if we feel useless or ineffectual as Mercury in Capricorn approaches a conjunction with Pluto and slows down to retrograde on December 19. With Mercury already in its shadow, we can notice technical snafus, wiring problems and those lapses in understanding beginning to accrue. It furthers to have something constructive to do, a person to help, a group to work with and cheer each other on. If the world turns grey let’s take care of our mood and not listen to the stories our fears may whisper, as these are not reliable. Instead, hold hearts gently, and do one thing that makes life better, for ourselves or for someone else.

As that Mercury sextiles intuitive Neptune this weekend we need to choose carefully how we use our imagination; if we don’t like the future we see, let’s not vote for that reality with our imagination, as astro-cohort Caroline Casey says, but instead ask ourselves what would make things better. Then daydream and act upon that. We can also feel unusually fed by Neptunian gifts like prayer, meditation, music, good company, and the magic of the season, and will enjoy it best when we can get all of them together.

An Aries Moon on Friday brings out our inner impatient rebel, though we can rebel from inertia and make positive changes, starting with our house. Throughout this week, if we slow down for too long, we could feel the mood gremlins tug at our sleeves.

A Taurus Moon over the weekend helps us make more comfortable choices. Early next week the Moon waxes full in verbal Gemini, hovering over the charts of the president elect and his vice president, and too much will be said by all sides. But we can get the world out. It’s a great time engage in debate and to send packages, run errands, or travel.

A Cancer Moon brings a more personal, protective note on Wednesday, and it is time to domesticate, and take care of one another. If the moody mists roll in, reach for that strength and those good causes to connect the soul to purpose.

Friday, December 9: Early morning discouragement can put a burr under our saddle, but we can use this discontent to motivate and tackle a problem we’ve been avoiding. Midday brings room for a shift and a penitential twinkle to our eye as the Moon conjuncts Uranus and the Sun conjuncts Jupiter. Tonight, it furthers to break routine.

Moon square Pluto 6:52 AM, Moon trine son 9:58 AM, Moon opposed Jupiter 10:50 AM, Moon square Saturn 11:09 AM, Moon conjunct Uranus to 20 4 PM, Sun sextile Jupiter 2:39 PM, Moon sextile Mars 6:06 PM.

Saturday, December 10: Dreamland wants to hold in to us this morning at Mercury sextiles Neptune, we just have to watch a passive response as the Sun conjuncts Saturn, and do not feed the doldrums with our thoughts-we’ll feel better if we can find ways to create beauty, comfort, connection and safety, in whatever scale we can.  Evening begins a welcoming flow between hearts if we can motivate to connect.

Mercury sextile Neptune 1:25 AM, Sun conjunct Saturn 4:51 AM, Moon enters Taurus 5:40 AM, Moon square Venus 11:37 AM, Moon sextile Neptune 8:51 PM, Moon trine Mercury 10:18.

Sunday, December 11: We need magic, a change in routine; we’re ready to make a difference as the Sun trines Uranus in fire signs, but may have trouble figuring out where. If we don’t have a clear and useful goal, we can find good people who are gathering for a purpose, and help. Feel the heart lighten with improvement and connection. Spend a moment organizing for the week ahead and create doable goals to keep the momentum moving.

Moon trine Pluto 7:54 AM, Moon square Mars 9:04 PM, Sun trine Uranus 11:56 PM.

Monday, December 12: It’s easier to do ten things than on: the Gemini Moon can rev up our nerves and words this morning and can leave us more scattered than focused. We need to talk, but can interrupt one another incessantly. Watch how anxiety and excitement are expressed; make sure the nervous energy goes in appropriate places, maybe Olympic-level multi-tasking, rather than splatter over one another.

Moon enters Gemini 5:41 AM, Moon trine Venus 3:22 PM, Moon square Neptune 8:30 PM.

Tuesday, December 13: This full Moon in Gemini can be pleasantly sociable in the right circumstances, or nervy and fracturing on another; it can be hard to integrate our thoughts as we notice our internal and cultural paradox. Snippets and sound bites highlight those internal conflicts. But, to our advantage we can pour this nervy energy into last minute tasks and tend to unfinished papers, and errands.

Moon trine Jupiter 11:24 AM, Moon opposed Saturn 12:03 PM, Moon sextile Uranus 2:17 PM, Moon opposed the Sun 5:05 PM, Moon trine Mars 10:57 PM.

Wednesday, Dec 14: The Moon enters Cancer and we want to go home. even, or especially, if we are not sure where that is. It’s a good day to reach out to displaced people and creatures, and to find ways to reconcile with biological and chosen family. Defenses run high, personalities are edgy, but we want to believe that good is possible.

Moon enters Cancer 5:08 AM, Moon trine Neptune 8:16 PM.

Thursday, December 15: The morning may feel tough, our inner conflicts uncomfortable and our thoughts chase after rabbits as the Moon opposes both Mercury and Pluto. If we dive deep, we can find gems of new understanding. Otherwise, we may just need to hold on to spirit and work this through. Feel a grip lessen and more options open midday as the Moon squares Jupiter and Uranus.

Moon opposed Mercury 3:24 AM, Moon opposed Pluto 7:38 AM, Moon square Jupiter 12:07 PM, Moon square Uranus 2:36 PM.

by Heather Roan Robbins

This week brings paradoxical messages from the stars; some aspects will slow us down and others stimulate events that need our attention right now. Let’s roll with the changes in the agenda, take advantage of serendipitous spontaneous moments, but let’s not even pretend we can control what happens.

To work with these mixed planetary instructions, it helps if we dance with the paradoxes and explore all possibilities but jump to no conclusions. Look back to the past, but stay aware in the present. Take delays as an opportunity to make better decisions. Mercury retrograde in its own sign of Virgo adds a slapstick quality of outrageous communications glitches and brings strange twists of fate. Legal decisions can flip-flop. We may need to go back and touch base with people we know and love as well as people with whom we’ve worked with before and might again.

[ad name=”AdSense Responsive”]

Friday unfolds under an exploratory, upbeat but impatient Sagittarius Moon, we can feel ready for a journey, but not have the keys in our hands. Jupiter, the planet we associate with expansion, freedom, and bounty, begins a year in Libra, the sign of social justice and delightful egalitarian relationships. All forms of relationships, from our love life to our international allies, move towards the front burner this year.

Over this weekend, and just in time for our tough memories of our country’s history, Venus squares Pluto and connects us with our powerful emotion of grief, loss, fear of loss, loneliness, or depth of feeling and healthy priorities in the face of it all, right on September 11. Mercury is retrograde also letting our mind linger on the past, for better or worst. We review, remember, and can reconnect.

And this can bring us down to a layer of existential depression or concern as Saturn squares Neptune for the third and last time (11/26/15, 6/17/16, 9/10/16). Let’s think back on any unfinished business we may have that occurred in this rhythm, and look for closure or a fresh layer of understanding. This aspect brings weltschmerz- world weariness-but also encourages us to put form to our spiritual search or creative process. It supports all work done to protect water, Neptune’s element, in particular efforts to restrict (Saturn’s gift) pollution related to fossil fuels and water (both Neptune’s work).

We may feel extra permeable under this aspect, may need extra rest and notice that our immune system and our psychic boundaries needs support. And if everything takes on a dull sheen or we begin to be passively depressed and lethargic about our political involvement or hope for the world, it’s important that we not believe the clouds, but forgive ourselves and contemplate our life in a more gentle, reflective light to remember where we’re heading, and why.

Monday brings up new possibilities as the Moon enters Aquarius and reconnects us. But the Sun and retrograde Mercury both square Mars on Tuesday which can make us reactively decisive. We need to stay focused on what we want, not we don’t want, and be particularly careful in any accident-prone situations, for instance around touchy equipment, difficult people or sharp objects.

The Moon waxes full in Pisces on Wednesday and Thursday and brings in a dreamy, emotional quality. It will help to stay busy and stay kind.

Friday, September 9: We may have a compulsion to speak our truth, inconvenient or not, this morning as the Moon conjuncts Mars in Sagittarius. We may feel rushed and tempted to hurry, but this can cause more delays, so have patience. This day can be eventful, action oriented, but may be busier than it is effective. Watch for communication glitches around dinner as the Moon squares Neptune, and make sure there’s room to move tonightas the Sagittarius Moon trines Uranus.

Jupiter enters Libra 5:18 AM, Moon square Sun 5:48 AM, Moon conjunct Mars 9:10 AM, Moon square Mercury 6:25 PM, Moon trine Uranus 6:50 AM.

Saturday, September 10: The mood is grimly efficient, a bit cranky and not interested in fluff. We want people to get on with it, we’re happy when they do, but can be impatient if they don’t with the Moon in competent Capricorn as Saturn squares Neptune. But we are not dealing with logic here. Take a chance to get to the root of what slows us down or stops us as Saturn squares Neptune. Underneath an existential grayness is a chance to get at something fundamental and build from there.

Mercury opposed Chiron 5:50 AM, Moon enters Capricorn 6:54 AM, Saturn square Neptune 7:30 AM, Moon square Jupiter 7:21 AM.

Sunday, September 11: We are aware of partings, loss, danger, and feel with of existential long homesickness as Venus squares Pluto while the Moon conjuncts Pluto. Relationships can become a bit obsessive thoughts of revenge whisper around the edges. Underneath that can also be strong and deep connection. It helps to work, to work together towards a common cause, small or large. Just reel in control issues and make it collaboration.

Venus square Pluto 1:47 AM, Moon sextile Neptune 2:54 AM, Moon conjunct Pluto 11:36 AM, Moon square Venus 12:39 PM, Moon trine son 8:35 PM, Moon trine Mercury 11:36 PM.

Monday, September 12: This morning, don’t push a new agenda, because we are more likely to say no then yes. Give us room to vent, process problems, and find short-term solutions as Mercury squares Mars. We can get abrupt, and say things we don’t mean. Accidents and transportation abound but so can precise engineering decisions. Afternoon is more sociable and proactive; our attention is brought to the bigger community as the Moon enters Aquarius.

Moon square Uranus 3:58 AM, Mercury square Mars 12:58 PM, Moon enters Aquarius3:28 PM, Moon trine Jupiter for 40 9 PM, Sun conjunct Mercury 5:39 PM.

Tuesday, September 13: If we are a little lonely, melancholic, or wonder what if, or if only, let’s notice how we are isolating ourselves or not choosing to create connection. Balance the need for solitude with a need for the group, feel connected by helping others. Good deeds weave relationships. Depression, sadness, and lethargy lift if we feel we can do something about the situation.

Moon sextile Saturn 10:29 AM, Sun square Mars 2:38 PM,

Wednesday, September 14: The mood can be a bit disconnected and floating, waiting for something to. Let life be the journey, make the most of the process. When delayed, meditate. Evening we grow more sensitive and vulnerable, but keep an eye on timing as a mental fog begins to rise.

Moon trine Sun 12:40 AM, Moon sextile Mars 6:23 AM, Moon sextile Uranus 9:31 AM, Moon enters Pisces 8:22 PM.

Thursday, September 15: In this morning’s fuzzyheaded confusion, comes an opportunity to tap dance on an old sore, or help it heal, as the Sun opposes Chiron, we make the choice. We can feel older tired this afternoon and need to rest, or if where feeling rather puddled and emotional but have to deal anyway, take it one step at a time, one building block at a time rather than look at the whole effort and feel overwhelmed.

Moon conjunct Neptune 1:45 PM, Moon square Saturn 2:25 PM, Moon sextile Pluto 9:34 PM, Mars square Chiron 9:54 PM.
