She Used Dark Humor to Cope with Alzheimer’s

Dayna SteeleWhen her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, noted author, speaker, and broadcast personality Dayna Steele began posting messages on Facebook detailing the alarming, if not shocking, struggles she and her family were experiencing on a daily basis. Three years of these online posts, along with selected comments she received from others, have been crafted into an accessible narrative in her new book Surviving Alzheimer’s With Friends, Facebook, and a Really Big Glass of Wine. With biting humor and raw emotion, Steele hopes to provide other caregivers a manual to navigate the disease.

“When Mom was diagnosed, I posted it on Facebook because I couldn’t bear the thought of saying ‘Mom has Alzheimer’s’ over and over again,” Steele says. “Then, after seeing how many replies and comments I received, I started to share a bit more. It turned into a support system for me, and that turned into a support system and a community for literally thousands of people.”

In addition to Steele’s personal account, as told through these Facebook posts, the book also contains practical information relevant to anyone who has a family member suffering from Alzheimer’s. After consulting experts in a variety of fields for her own mother’s journey (neurology, assisted living, long-term care, required documents, insurance, and elder law), Steele compiled, and now shares, a wealth of resources designed to help navigate this challenge.

“We were simply not equipped nor prepared for what was coming,” recalls Steele, a mother of three sons herself. “I’m amazed at how many things I didn’t know. Not only what’s going to happen to the patient, but what’s going to happen to the family. Nobody talks about those things.”

“This book isn’t intended to make you feel sorry for my Mom, my family, or for me. It is to give you permission to live, and laugh, and love, and cry, and throw things no matter where you are in your journey with Alzheimer’s,” Steele explains. “If you have to experience Alzheimer’s – and chances are you will – I say do it with love, laughter, and wine.”

Fran Gilmore Nicholson passed away on October 17, 2015. In the coming months, her daughter Dayna will tell her story, which became the story of many, to audiences of all sizes across the country. Her goal is to help other families now stunned by Alzheimer’s disease in their search for answers, information, and support.

Refreshingly honest and laced with dark humor, Surviving Alzheimer’s stands as a testament to personal strength and resiliency in the face of extraordinary and unexpected circumstances. This is Steele’s seventh book and it is available in paperback and Kindle versions on Amazon and at select retail locations.

You Can Become A Miracle-Worker With Your Life

by Dr. Bruno Cignacco

If you have been on a spiritual path for a while, you surely know that there are several techniques, some of them widely promoted, that you can use for your personal evolution. These worthy instruments can help you to improve your life in different dimensions such as prosperity, health, relationships, career, and others.

You might have tried some of these tools (for example: visualization, meditation, etc.), and at least temporarily benefited from them. However, you might also have had some doubts about the real scope and duration of the positive effects of these very methods. You could also have felt that most of these tools seem to deal only with the consequences of your difficulties, and not with their causes.

If this was your experience, you might have wondered whether there was a method with a different perspective on personal transformation, with more longstanding effects, a tool which could eradicate your problems straightforwardly from their causes and for good.

To that effect, there is a powerful ancient technique called Ho’oponopono which has real alchemic power because it removes the problematic situations in your life from their root, instead of temporarily fixing them. From this perspective, the main cause of all the difficulties in your life are memories or past programming you hold on your subconscious level.

Even though you cannot realize the presence of these subconscious programs, at least directly, you can notice some of their effects, which are your negative life circumstances. In many cases you deal with the same difficulties (consequences) again and again because their origin (or cause) is your subconscious programs.

Ho’oponopono just requires that you periodically say four sentences (“I am sorry”, “Please forgive me”, “I love you” and “Thank you”). When you say these four sentences on a continuous basis, you are deleting your subconscious memories, which are the only origin of all your difficulties. The deletion of this memories is performed with the assistance of Divinity. Ho’oponopono is not only a simple tool but also flexible one. You can say these sentences aloud or silently, to yourself or to the Divine. It is important to say these sentences on a regular basis, because you have umpteen memories to delete.

If you apply this technique with consistency, you will surely see tangible results, when least expected. Sometimes your problems will be solved in a heartbeat; other times they will take a longer time.

Albert Einstein once said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other one is as though everything is a miracle.” With the frequent use of Ho’oponopono, your whole life will be turned into a miracle because this technique will help you transmute discordant conditions into harmonious ones.

Besides, when you clean your subconscious mind from its limiting memories, you will also be reconnected to the unbounded ocean of wisdom and love, which is called the Divine. This divine source will provide you with useful guidance and loving support to make your life progress in all dimensions. With the divine support you will fully harness your inner resources to evolve endlessly. The Divine is not different from you; in fact, it is the essence of all that you are. The main religions in the world agree on the fact you are the likeness and image of Divinity.

Ho’oponopono is not another tool that comes in vogue; it is not a quick-fix remedy either. Even though many scholars cannot scientifically explain the positive effects of the use of this technique, its value cannot be deprecated. There is much anecdotal evidence about the overwhelming power of this tool all over the world. Its effectiveness has been displayed in various fields, such as: healing of health conditions and increases in abundance, among others.

If you are, like most people, harassed by umpteen difficulties, there is good news for you. Your problems can be considered as prized opportunities to test the power of the Ho’oponopono technique. If you truly want to improve your life, you must give this tool a try.

Some masters called Ho’oponopono a “miracle-maker tool.” Siegel states that: “a true miracle is often defined as an event that defies the laws of nature” and also as “God’s redirections from which something good would come.” In accordance to this definition, the frequent application of Ho’oponopono will bring about positive occurrences in life, which are unlikely to be explained with logical arguments.

The use of this tool will not actually take a lot of effort. When you do Ho’oponopono you are in contact with Divine energy, and Divinity never uses the hard way; everything occurs smoothly and at ease. From this perspective, all resources you need at any moment are provided in the most adequate fashion. Some of the main applications of Ho’oponopono are:

  • Healing of any type of illness (emotional, mental or physical)
  • Purification of your mind and body
  • Boosting of your overall levels of energy
  • More clarity and sharpness of mind
  • More awareness of the present moment
  • Increase in your creativity
  • Frequent connection to the “zone” or state of flow
  • Elimination of your worries and fear
  • Improvement of your self-worth and self-confidence
  • Solution of relational problems
  • Development of better social skills
  • Improvement in your career and job prospects
  • Betterment of your financial situation
  • Access to unlimited wisdom and Divine Guidance
  • More peacefulness and happiness
  • Experiences of forgiveness, thankfulness and pure love

How to Deal with Grief More Constructively

Moving through Loss and Grief – The very best gift you can ever give yourself is time for self-care

If you ask people who have lost a loved one what they want the most, the answer is usually for the pain to go away. Grief is a process and the amount of time it takes to get through it varies from person to person and the tools they employ.

Georgena Eggleston knows a lot more about grief than many of us,  after having buried her brother, father-in-law, mother, father, and teenaged son in just three and a half years.

It was this very series of events that put her on a path to becoming a trauma specialist and grief guide who now supports others through this challenging process. She shares what she has learned about healing grief in her new book, “A New Mourning: Discovering the Gifts in Grief”.

“People usually know that they are in grief immediately after losing someone” she says. “But they rarely realize that grief can cause a host of longer lasting physical, social, and mental problems including anxiety, nausea, neck and shoulder pain, headaches and even depression. Other symptoms of repressed grief include:

  • Awakening each night at 2 a.m.
  • A constant fatigue
  • Sense of being unfocused and distracted
  • Being uncomfortable when alone
  • Discounting happy moments thinking it is not the right thing to do.
  • Having a hard time forming new relationships
  • Staying overly busy because they’re afraid to be in their grief.

“What people in grief universally wish for is relief,” Ms. Eggleston says. “They want the pain to simply go away. They want to wake up and feel refreshed again. They want the clouds to brighten and the burden to be lifted.”

“There are gifts to be discovered in the grieving process,” she says. “The challenge is that you have to make a conscious choice to grieve. If you suppress your grief, you actually delay moving through it and this often creates additional problems. The best short cut is to go through it.

“The best and quickest remedy,” she says, is to go just do it. When you are ready, grieve. Let it happen.”  Here are her recommendations on how to lean into your grief.

Listen to your body and its messages

When you are ready to move into and through your grief, here are some of the many ways she recommends to make grieving easier:

  • Take the first 90 days off.
  • Put everything on hold for a year. This is not the time to move, take a new job, get married, get divorced, get into a new relationship. Just wait.
  • Let others take care of you. When people express their sympathy, often they will offer to do something for you. Take them up on it. Delegate the work that needs doing.
  • When people ask how they can help, tell them “restaurant gift cards, please.”
  • Carefully select others to talk to about your experience and what you’re going through.
  • Allow the fatigue and the overwhelming roller coaster of feelings. Don’t resist. If you get tired, rest.
  • Simply do the basics. Don’t complicate your life.
  • Just say No.
  • Focus on What You Want

Ask yourself the following: “What is the most kind and loving thing I can be, do, or have for myself in this moment?” Here are some possibilities:

  • A cup of tea. A glass of water with a pinch of sea salt and lemon.
  • A walk outside to feel your bare feet on the grass, the dirt, the sand.
  • One minute of peace and quiet as you turn away from the computer and stretch.
  • Being grateful for what you are doing or for where you are right now.
  • Gratitude for someone or something beautiful right in front of you.
  • Noticing your breathing. Exhaling like a lion and then allowing a breath to come.
  • Going to the bathroom when you first feel the urge.
  • Take a drive. Feel your hips in the car seat, your back supporting you, and take note and pride as you place your hands on an imaginary clock at four and eight on the steering wheel. Get in the groove. Drive for a while.
  • Being kind to your body by asking someone to help carry or move something.
  • Reading a book.
  • Playing with a child.
  • Taking a walk or walking the dog
  • Telling your story of loss to a trusted colleague or family member.
  • Watching the clouds, trees, flowers, people outside the window.
  • Grieve freely.

Experiencing the grieving process allows you to move past the feelings and move on to a new life.  Only after grieving can you create a new relationship at a deeper level with the person that is gone. You can move from longing and missing him or her, to a new powerful and energetic heartfelt connection. This is the shift that needs to happen.

Relationships do not end when someone dies. It’s important to shift them to a new level of health by emphasizing self-care. Take time to grieve every day whether it’s in the car or in the shower.

A New Mourning: Discovering the Gifts in Grief

Gain control of your life with positive affirmations

“Why is it I have prayed and prayed and got no answer?

Jim Jensen has been asked this question untold times. It’s a very common complaint all over the world.

His answer is this: “All thoughts are prayers, and all prayers are answered – positive or negative. In life, you don’t often get what you want – you get what you expect. And the key to creating the realities you desire and deserve is to make what you want and what you expect the same.”

This is the power of the subconscious area of the mind.

In his new book titled, 7 KEYS To Unlock Your Full Potential, Jensen explores how to take control of your beliefs and unleash the power of your subconscious mind, so that breakthrough performance can result.

7 KEYS builds on his earlier work Beyond The Power of Your Subconscious Mind, which encompasses his 45 years of studying the work of Dr. Joseph Murphy.

“Beliefs are the results of your experiences, events, conditions, and the acts and actions of ourselves and others. Beliefs are the things we believe to be eternally true – the truths of life that do not change,” he says.

“When we take control of our subconscious beliefs and emotions, we take back control of our lives.”

Your mind is an amazing tool which works actively to create the world you experience. Your beliefs about the world are colored by your beliefs about yourself.

Jensen explains how our ability to control our life is based on our beliefs about our mind, particularly how well we control our limiting beliefs.  These personal beliefs – affirmations – are critical.  Jensen defines affirmations as follows:

“A statement of fact or belief, positive or negative, that tends to lead you toward the end result you expect.”

A belief is a thought in your mind. Do not believe in things to harm or hurt you. Believe in your power to heal, inspire, strengthen, and prosper you. Change your thoughts, and you change your destiny.

When you say to yourself, “I am really good at this”, your mind will bring that belief into reality.

On the other hand if you say, “I am really bad it this,” your mind will bring that into reality as well.

Seldom does an individual exceed his/ her expectations. High-performance people develop high expectations which they hold firmly in their minds as though this picture (or goal) is already achieved.

You are in control. By changing your beliefs, you have the opportunity to effect changes in the world. You can counteract negative suggestions and beliefs. Here’s how:

Think good, and good follows. Think evil, and evil follows. You are what you think about all day long.
Your subconscious mind does not argue with you. It accepts what your conscious mind decrees. If you say, “I can’t afford it,” it may be true, but do not say it. Select a better thought; decree, “I’ll buy it. I accept it in my mind.”
You have the power to choose. Choose health and happiness. You can choose to be friendly, or you can choose to be unfriendly. Choose to be cooperative, joyous, friendly, lovable, and the whole world will respond. This is the best way to develop a wonderful personality.
Your conscious mind is the “watchman at the gate.” Its chief function is to protect your subconscious mind from false impressions. Choose to believe that something good can happen and is happening now. Your greatest power is your capacity to choose. Choose happiness and abundance.
The suggestions and statements of others have no power to hurt you. The only power is the movement of your own thought. You can choose to reject the thoughts or statements of others and affirm the good. You have the power to choose how you will react.
Watch what you say. You have to account for every idle word. Never say, “I will fail; I will lose my job; I can’t pay the rent.” Your subconscious cannot take a joke. It brings all these things to pass.
Your mind is not evil. No force of nature is evil. It depends how you use the powers of nature. Use your mind to bless, heal, and inspire all people everywhere.
Never say, “I can’t.” Overcome that fear by substituting the following, “I can do all things through the power of my own subconscious mind.”
Begin to think from the standpoint of the eternal truths and principles of life and not from the standpoint of fear, ignorance, and superstition. Do not let others do your thinking for you. Choose your own thoughts and make your own decisions.
You are the captain of your soul (subconscious mind) and the master of your fate. Remember, you have the capacity to choose. Choose life! Choose love! Choose health! Choose happiness!
Whatever your conscious mind assumes and believes to be true, your subconscious mind will accept and bring to pass. Believe in good fortune, divine guidance, right action, and all the blessings of life.
