Your Hidden Riches: Unleashing the Power of Ritual to Create a Life of Meaning and Purposesam
By Janet Bray Attwood and Chris Attwood with Sylvia Dvorak, Ph.D
Harmony Books, Penguin Random House
Hardcover, 304 pages
Do rituals really create a sense of magic in our lives? According to Janet and Chris Attwood, even small and personal rituals have the ability to influence us significantly whether we realize it or not. While some may think that faith and religion is heavily involved, this practical book emphasizes that performing casual rituals on a daily basis can create positive outcomes. There are even true stories about everyday people that are cited which truly delves into healthy patterns of life.
Through a series of different sections, this book helps us to enhance each area of our lives. Wealth is discussed along with magic relationships, family bonds, health/diet and even beauty. Within some areas, there are survey questions where readers can determine their own inner strength related to concepts such as core beliefs, positive thinking and the desire to care for oneself. While some of the surveys can seem redundant, there are areas of the book called ritual practice where ideas and tips are formulated to create the perfect ritual. One of my favorites is a bedtime ritual that is mentioned where a person goes through the best thing that happened in the day, the worst thing and then the silliest thing. This can be done with children, a significant other or solo.
When reading this book, individuals should understand that each person lives a different life and what may work wonders for someone may not work for someone else. This is why I’m happy that the authors mention the need to find “your own breakthrough.” Throughout history, most inspiration for life was derived from a higher power such as God, gods or angels. In today’s society, many old rituals are long gone and there is a plethora of new rituals that give true depth and meaning to life.
Most of us look for that one “aha” moment where we have everything figured out. However, in reality, who has everything completely figured out? There is likely a need for reconnection, inner peace and an appreciation for the small and wondrous things in life. From the development of healthy eating patterns to the maintenance of healthy relationships, this book provides excellent advice for people of all ages. I’m truly impressed by the insight of each author. Once the tools are used consistently, there is potential for an incredulous breakthrough. Give it a try!
“Your Hidden Riches” is scheduled for publication October 21, 2014.
