Writers retreat in Scotland announced by bestselling author Kathleen McGowan

If you are serious about being a writer, whether your medium is fiction or non-fiction, you will be interested to know that you could get some help honing your craft from New York Times bestselling author Kathleen McGowan. Her “Magdalene Line” novels of The Expected One, The Book of Love and the Poet Prince have been read worldwide, translated into more than 40 languages with over a million copies sold.

Every two years, she hosts a tour expressly for writers, and this year it is dubbed “The Writers’ Grail,” as its itinerary includes mysterious Rosslyn Chapel near Edinburgh, Scotland, which has been associated with The Holy Grail in publications including The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown.

The workshops themselves will be held in scenic and historic Iona Abbey on the west coast of Scotland. The group will also visit sites at Loch Lomond and Edinburgh.

Co-hosting the program will be creativity coach Eleanor O’Rourke. Because these two instructors will be devoting significant personal attention to the participants, the size of the group must be strictly limited to no more than 20. Therefore, aspiring writers who want to get a Scottish jump-start on their creative process are advised to register quickly, as previous tours hosted by Ms. McGowan have tended to sell out very quickly.

Here is what Kathleen had to say about her program:

Please note that this is not a “tour” per se – it is a spiritual and historical journey designed to inspire writers of all genres and at all levels of accomplishment. We will travel to fascinating sites as well as spend hours together on Iona in seminar and intimate writing workshops. Nor is this a “writing class.” There will be no discussions on grammar or spelling! This is about inspiration, about getting to the core of your being as a writer, about taking you through important questions like: Why do you write? What do you want to express to the world, and why? What makes you authentic and special, and what inspires you at your greatest level of intensity?
