Starcodes Horoscopes for December 10 – 16, 2010

by Heather Roan Robbins
The holiday daze brings more glitter and less efficiency as Mercury turns retrograde today through Dec 30th. Although it will an important time to finish up work in progress and reconnect with dear ones, let’s not even bother starting something new until the new year kicks in. It is time to rest our brain and become whole beings, and the more we do this, the less stress we will have as the New Year beings.
Mercury retrogrades for three weeks three times a year due to the quirks between its orbit and Earth. While it’s always an entertaining if somewhat frustrating time, the few days where Mercury appears to stand still, now and again at the end of December, can be really tricky. If we’re trying to get a point across and the words turn to mush, let’s just smile now and talk it through next week.
While we can talk things over, any decision made now may need to be revamped. Legislation now stalemated has a good chance of moving forward later. If we haven’t already mailed packages or need to finish a paper or make travel plans, it’s best to wait until after the weekend to do so. But do not cut deadlines any closer than absolutely necessary, leave fudge room for last minute complications.
For the next three weeks expect odd misunderstandings, misplaces items, old rumors, but also an increase in odd luck. Confirm information; dress sizes, appointment trains schedule etc. Though the store may be out of what we came for, we run into a long-lost pal while we’re looking. Look for the hidden vein of luck woven in the minor mishaps.
As we pull out old holiday decorations, or decide not to this year, we also pull those yearly memories out of moth balls. Mercury retrograde brings our mind back to the past. When a relative gets difficult, just get them started on old stories and family history to keep them away from more tender territory.
The two emotional planets, Venus and Mars, are in relatively introspective but determined signs, as we may feel less wild and sociable at the holiday gatherings, more interested in real connection or time alone. Venus returns to 13 degrees of Scorpio, where it was when it turned retrograde in October, and may take us back to some Venusian conundrum about relationships, love, money, or self-confidence that began in October. But we can handle it differently now, with less compulsion and more generosity. When we do connect with one another, we can so deeply, without words, and from a place of trust.
But we can get snarly when things go wrong or when our heart gets hooked on some thorn of the past unless we make a conscious effort to heal it, let it go, and make the most of present. Notice a certain emotional steadiness now with Venus in Scorpio and Mars in Capricorn. That doesn’t mean we’re all cheerful jingle bells and mistletoe, but more a being at rest tends to remains at rest, and a begin in anger or love will tends to remain in anger or love. It can be hard to casually change moods. When depression creeps in or the inner scrooge gets too loud, let the snarly cynicism vent briefly and then practice loving all sentient beings long enough for the new mood to take.
This weekend the mood spaces out as Mercury retrogrades under a Pisces Moon. Drift and dream, and decorate for the holidays; dive it to the magic, because not much else gets done easily. Then prepare well for a challenging week next week.
On Monday a four-way conjunction peaks between Mercury, Mars, north node and Pluto demands that we make decisions and take action, but may not give us the information we need to do it right. This is the Wiki-leaks aspect, anger (Mars) over secret (Pluto) information (Mercury) used to manage or manipulate (in Capricorn), and the discussion, however we feel about it, is good for our evolution (north node). This is a surgical aspect, some tough decision need to be made, what to prune away so other parts can succeed; be willing to pare down, but don’t overdo it.  This line-up can intensify our moods or make us obsess on our concerns, while it’s great for getting over-due projects done, it can leave some people depressed, thinking about what would have happened, what should have been done. Don’t go there. Stay here, or look back for clues as to what really happened, why, and what to do next.
Friday, Dec 10: The world slows down and misunderstandings pick up, minds feel full of brain-sludge, but people are still in a relatively good mood. Don’t worry about finishing up today, better wait until next week. We mean well but can trip over our boots, caring but clumsy as Mercury retrogrades. Take any opportunity to weave connections in the positive vibes afternoon, they will be useful later. Tonight is more subdued than planned; the subconscious is churning and distracts us.
Saturday, Dec 11: Sleep in as the Moon conjuncts Neptune then enters Pisces, keep it low-key give the psyche room to roam this spacey morning. Afternoon is tender on the inside, though we may me may not want to talk about it, but creative on the outside. Work together rather than talk about it. Some object from the past can trigger a flood of memories. Dreamy, active night, a depth of feeling present but unspoken as the Moon sextiles Mars, Pluto and Mercury; just keep the schedule loose.
Sunday, Dec 12: Sweet, connecting morning, a good time to bring our hearts together with like souls. Afternoon can feel aimless, inefficient but contemplative. Evening, we can feel old but appreciate traditions as the Moon challenges Saturn. Let’s not argue about how something is done and instead accept each person has their own methodology. The week will go easier if we prepare and rest tonight.
Monday, Dec 13: It’s easy to get behind this morning, but it is important that we wake up and deal with reasonable dispatch, get oriented to the week’s issues early under a positive Moon Jupiter conjunction, then cope this afternoon as a Mars, Mercury, and Pluto conjunction in Capricorn requires tight work and tough decisions. Do not try to manipulate, do not be manipulated. Take tough news seriously but with a grain of salt, it may not be what it seems. Prune away the excess, but watch the tendency to cut off more than needed, or to slice a finger by accident.
Tuesday, Dec 14: Weird crosscurrents need extra balance; don’t get caught up on other people’s storms as the Moon enters Aries and squares the Capricorn line-up. Mechanical problems, crackling moods, breakdowns or break-through are possible; make careful choices. A flurry of activity follows through yesterday’s decisions; resistance, resentment possible on this edgy, chip on the shoulder afternoon, but what do we have to prove? Don’t argue, just do what can be done. If frustrated, move on to another project that has less resistance rather than beat heads.
Wednesday, Dec 15: We are called to be mature even if we don’t feel like it on this clean-up and follow-through day, but if we take a moment to listen to the spontaneous needs of our soul, we won’t be so resistant later. Short trips with little or no agendas can be surprisingly serendipitous. Work off the schedule is more successful than on.
Thursday, Dec 16: Last minute expenditures spill form a generous nature, but we worry about money on the process, a materially thoughtful day with some conflicts of interests as the Sun squares Jupiter. We need to make our point traits afternoon, even if we have to talk around and around first to find our words as the Moon trines Pluto and Mercury. Use metaphor and illustration rather than say the same thing twice.
